This is an interesting article topic and will be equal parts facts and opinion. It is our belief that the efficiency of a panel is just as important as the long time performance and warranty. The color of the panels is somewhat important as well, since we are under the impression from most customers that black on black panels are the clear winner in terms of aesthetics. Panels
Mission Solar 345w
These panels are our absolute favorite because not only are they made in Texas, but they are incredibly affordable and have a terrific reputation for sturdiness and efficiency. The only con would be that this module in particular is only 345 watts, but they have more powerful options for roofs with spacing issues.
LG 380w Neon 2
Everyone knows the LG brand, which typically resonates with quality electronics and their panels do not stray far from this. These panels are very sleek, powerful, and good looking. They have very few problems and a great warranty. The only cons would be the price and the lack of availability (these panels are imported and unavailable at times).
Solaria 400w power xt
This is panel by a newer company based in California that has very high efficiency and lots of power. These panels have done exceedingly well and test higher than any other in terms of wattage. They are very slick and come in all black. The only con would be the fact that a newer company like this could be prone to failure, in which case your warranty would not be honored in the long run. This is a very slim chance, but still something that is discussed.
Inverters
Enphase iQ7+ micro inverters
Enphase is the best name in battery and inverter technology and we proudly offer the iQ7+ on all of our projects that desire an inverter. It is important to note that inverters are even more important than your panel tech. If you have nice 400w panels but a crappy inverter, they are only going to be used like 320w panels. This model can handle up to 440 watts per panel and has one of the highest efficiency ratings in the industry. We like to stick with the "if it's not broke, why fix it" when people ask if we've tried other things. Terrific warranty, terrific product, this is what we put on our own houses.
Solar Edge HD-Wave single inverter
This is a great inverter option that shouldn't be looked down upon. This inverter has plenty of power generating ability and as far as string inverters go, it's top of the line. This is a cheaper option for home systems and is used frequently without issue. Micro inverters are the latest fad that have consumed a lot of the attention from string inverters, but if you have a home with zero shade covering, you would be perfectly capable of using a string inverter without any hesitation or lack of efficiency. This is our standard inverter for a base solar home package.
