When we look at the future we often fantasize about modern architecture and floating cars, but in reality the changes we will see are how we will improve upon existing infrastructure. Regardless of how your power will come to you in the future, via nuclear fusion, wind, or solar, it will still be via a utility company. Residential solar is the only way that you will ever own the means of production for your own energy and thus making it a stable and necessary industry moving forward. The biggest change that we do see with residential solar is that we believe a time will come when all new home builds will have solar on them. This may come from government mandates or simply because society has finally accepted solar as the answer to our energy concerns. The rise of electric vehicles will ultimately push solar forward and vice-versa.
With living conditions and transportation methods being both made completely sustainable, it is only a matter of time before widespread adoption into the market. Think back a few years, do you even remember seeing Teslas around? Or coming across a home with large black panels covering the roof? I certainly remember these times as an EV driver for over 4 years now. When I first got my electric car I would rarely see anyone else driving one, and now on my commute I see dozens. This is how I feel about solar. 5 years ago you could go on Google Earth and use the satellite function to look at your neighborhood and now you see just about one out of every twenty homes has little black rectangles on it. This is what change looks like. It doesn't come in some overnight sweeping attack, it comes over time and with patience. I feel very good about where we are heading with our sustainable future and it doesn't happen because someone forces it, it happens because a lot of ordinary people make the right decision.
